The Andhra Pradesh government has launched the Unified Family Survey (UFS), a major initiative to ensure that every household in the state is accurately recorded in government databases. The exercise is aimed at helping the state government to quickly reach all eligible families with welfare programs and public services while improving the efficiency of service delivery.
Starting from mid-December, the survey is conducted through face-to-face visits by employees of village secretariats in rural areas and departmental secretariats in urban locations. Officials will verify and update each family’s details to ensure official records reflect their current status.
The main objective of the UFS is to ensure that no eligible family or individual is left out of government welfare programmes. Updated and accurate records will also streamline the certification and approval process and eliminate cross-departmental cross-verification. The survey is carried out using a special mobile application that enables fast and accurate data collection. Whenever possible, existing records in the app are pre-populated to reduce time spent on housekeeping. Identity verification is done securely through Aadhaar authentication, which protects citizens’ personal information.
By providing reliable data at the household level, the UFS will support better planning, policy making and implementation of welfare systems across the state. Officials described the initiative as a significant step towards transparent, responsive and citizen-centric governance.
The government urged all citizens to cooperate with survey workers and provide accurate information to ensure seamless access to social services. The UFS, according to a press release, underscores Andhra Pradesh’s commitment to use digital technologies and citizen-friendly approaches to enhance public service delivery and improve the quality of life for every household.
