A senior accountant in the Dhone sub-treasury office was caught red-handed by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday while accepting a bribe.
According to officials, the complainant J. Syam Raj, who retired as a revenue officer in the Dhone municipal office last June, had been making the rounds of the finance department regarding his pension benefits and also to transfer his pension from Dhone to Anantapur. Accused Ramavath Laxman Naik demanded a bribe of ₹45,000 for processing the file. As Syam Raj was not ready to pay the amount, Laxman Naik agreed to process the file after paying ₹30,000.
ACB officials on Monday laid a trap and caught Laxman Naik while he was accepting the amount at the Finance Ministry office. The residence and offices of the accused are being searched, officials said.
