The CPI-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) has managed to garner more votes across the state in the 2025 local polls, according to the fronts’ vote share data released by the State Election Commission (SEC).
While the BJP-led NDA emerged as the single largest front in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, winning 50 of the 101 seats, here too the LDF managed to get slightly more votes than the former, data showed.
According to an SEC report released on Friday (December 20, 2025), the LDF claimed 37.27% (5.10 lakh votes) of votes in the panchayats, while the UDF received 35.30% (4.83 lakh) and the NDA 21.59% (2.95 lakh). In panchayats, Indpendents and other parties got 5.83% (7.99 lakh) votes. Out of 73 grama panchayats, LDF won 35 and UDF 25.
The LDF also won all four municipalities in the district; Varkala, Attingal, Nedumangad and Neyyatinkara. In all four combined, the LDF got 40.95% (55,133) votes, compared to the UDF’s 30.66% (41,273) and the NDA’s 23.48% (31,615), SEC data shows. Other parties and independents received 4.90% of the vote.
In Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, NDA won 34.52% (1,65,232) votes and 50 seats. The LDF had a marginally higher vote share (34.65% – 1,65,861), though its number of seats was 29. The third-ranked UDF claimed 26.28% (1,25,803) of the votes. The adjourned election in Vizhinjam ward will be held on January 12.
Sworn in on December 21
Across local bodies in Kerala, newly elected members of local bodies will be sworn in on Sunday (December 21).
Elections to the posts of mayors, deputy mayors, chairmen and vice-chairmen of municipalities and presidents and vice-chairmen of panchayats are scheduled for December 26 and 27.
