Pakistan’s former prime minister Imran Khan along with his wife Bushra Bibi have been sentenced to 17 years in prison in a corruption case, new news agency PTI reported, citing local media.
Khan was first arrested on 9 May 2023 on corruption charges. Later, in August 2023, he was arrested again in the Toshakhan case.
The new sentencing of the former Pak prime minister and Cricket World Cup winner comes amid a wave of criticism of the Pakistani government over Khan’s alleged ill-treatment in prison, and even the UN calling for Khan’s release from solitary confinement.
