An American woman named Karina went viral on Instagram after posting a dramatic yet funny video about her dog. Her passport was torn to shreds just hours before the overseas flight.
The viral video shows him holding the damaged passport and trying to process what happened. Her tone veers between disbelief and weary humor.
“I’m leaving today. The bags are packed. And that’s what my dog decided to do. The last time I got into the room, I was like, Oh! What did you do, Kanella? And she was just fidgeting,” Karina says in the viral video.
She recalls how students once told her that dogs had eaten their homework. She never believed them. Now he admits they could have been honest.

“As a teacher, students would say to me, ‘Oh, my dog ate my homework’. And I would always say, ‘Give me something better to work on’. Maybe they were telling the truth,” says Karina.
Karina explains that the passport was destroyed the night before. Her flight was scheduled for the day she was shooting the video. Her bags were already packed. Everything was ready.
Still, her dog Kanela chose that moment to chew on her waist. Karina adds that Kanela looked happy and innocent even though she was creating absolute chaos.
Karina was saved by the fact that she had a backup passport. Otherwise, the dog would be thrown out on the street, she joked.
“She’s a smart dog. Honey, if it was like this, Oh, back to the streets where you’re going. She wanted to make me angry, but not madly. But I’m still sad because it’s so many memories,” Karina says in the viral video.

She shared why her damaged passport meant more than just a travel document to her. She said she is sad because it contains memories of her life abroad, including her first visa when she moved to China.
She carried stamps from Greece, Myanmar and South Korea. These emotional ties made the loss personal.
In the video, she asks her dog if she was sorry for that. The dog places an arm on the damaged waist.
“Oh! You want to say something… Is that what you want to say? And I’m going to do it again?” Karina wonders.
In the description of her post, she warned travelers that a backup passport still does not solve everything, as a damaged passport must be officially reported.

“If your trip is urgent, apply for an emergency passport so you can still leave the country. Once you return home (or settle down), you can replace it with a fully valid passport,” she added.
“Even if you have a second passport like me, you still have to report the damaged one. They don’t play with their documents! Save it for future trips – and protect your dog from international paperwork. Trust me,” she concluded.
Reaction on social networks
The viral video resonated with social media users. Many associated it with last-minute travel disasters. Others simply enjoyed the mixture of panic and comedy that Karina shared with such honesty.
“You owe all the kids A’s,” joked one of them.
“Girl put it safely in your waist holster,” another advised.
Another commented: “Your dog said: YOU ARE GOING NOWHERE.”
“When the dog shows you who they are… trust them! Kanela is hateful!” joked another.
