Organized by Kudumbashree District Mission near Lions Park on Kozhikode South Beach, the ongoing food festival and fair celebrates the rich culinary heritage of Malabar. The seaside venue welcomes visitors with stalls selling traditional food, snacks, combo meals, cakes, desserts and a wide variety of ethnic delicacies prepared by various Kudumbashree units across the district.
“Kudumbashree offers a vital marketing platform for local entrepreneurs like us who don’t have access to regular retail spaces,” said Thesleena, a home baker who sells at the event.
Focused on the financial empowerment of small-scale vendors, the festival promotes micro-enterprise products through its dedicated stalls. A special highlight of the fest is the array of cakes and desserts prepared by the Kudumbashree Cafe training group.
Apart from the food stalls, the festival has also set up shopping centers selling organic and natural products such as forest honey, red sands, ginger coffee, true indigo and palm sugar.
“The unique flavors have attracted visitors not only from across the district but also from neighboring districts. Despite the slow start, we hope to host more customers in the coming days,” said Neethu A., District Program Manager, Kudumbashree.
By focusing on microfinance and livelihood development, Kudumbashree Mission aims to stimulate local economic growth for women entrepreneurs. It provides a marketing space for small units to showcase their skills, helping them achieve financial independence and achieve sustainable livelihoods.
“Kudumbashree offers products without added preservatives, which ensures purity and natural quality,” said Kavitha PC, district coordinator of the mission.
The festival is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. until Sunday (December 21).
