New Delhi: The Singapore Police Force (SPF) said on Friday that investigations into Zubeen Garg’s death are ongoing and that no foul play is suspected based on findings so far, news agency ANI reported.
In an official statement, the SPF said the investigation is under Singapore’s Coroners Act 2010. Once the investigation is complete, the findings will be submitted to the State Coroner, who will conduct a Coroner’s Inquest (CI). Hearings for the inquiry are currently scheduled for January and February 2026, ANI reported.
“Singapore police are aware of online speculation about the circumstances of Zubeen Garg’s death, as well as reports in the Indian media about developments in India,” the statement said. “Based on our investigations to date, the SPF does not suspect foul play in Mr Garg’s death.”
Police clarified that a coroner’s inquest is a fact-finding process to determine the cause and circumstances of death and that his findings will be released after the hearing. The SPF also urged the public not to speculate or spread unverified information during the investigation.
Garg traveled to Singapore to attend the North East India Festival (NEIF). He died under mysterious circumstances on September 19 while swimming in the sea. After his death, the Assam government constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the case, the news agency said.
Earlier this month, the SIT had filed the charge sheet in the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Kamrup, Guwahati on December 12. The main price list is approximately 2,500 pages long and is supported by almost 12,000 pages of documents. The court fixed December 22 as the next hearing date.
The SIT arrested seven people in connection with the investigation, including event organizer Shyamkanu Mahanta, Garg’s manager Siddharth Sharma, Shekhar’s bandmate Jyoti Goswami, co-singer Amritprav Mahant, Garg’s cousin Sandipan Garg and two personal security officers Nandeswar Bora and Paresh Baishya.
According to the Assam Police, four of the accused, namely Mahanta, Sharma, Goswami and Amritprava Mahanta, have been charged with murder under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
On October 21, a team from the SIT led by Special DGP (CID) Munna Prasad Gupta visited Singapore to coordinate with local authorities as part of the investigation. The SIT has so far recorded statements from more than 300 persons.
