SIR in Gujarat: The names of around 74 million voters have been omitted from Gujarat’s draft electoral rolls after the completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, which reduced the total number of voters to 4.34 million, down from 5.08 million earlier, PTI reported on Friday, citing an official.
The Election Commission (EC) of India released the draft electoral rolls on Friday. A total of 73.73 lakh voters were removed from the electoral rolls following the EC-initiated exercise to clean up the rolls, a news portal quoted the state’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Hareet Shukla as saying.
“Before publication of the draft electoral rolls, a total of 5,08,43,436 voters were registered in the state. After the publication of these lists, the number of voters is now 4,34,70,109,” he said.
“A total of 73,73,327 names of voters were removed from the draft voter list during the SIR campaign,” he added.
