Additional land is being acquired for construction of flyovers at Ambattur OT and Avadi bus depot junctions on the Chennai-Tiruttani main road (also known as MTH road) from Padi to Thiruninravur.
The 600 m long flyovers are likely to be constructed by Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) after the amount is deposited with them by the Roads Department. CMRL requires additional land for the construction of pillars, an official source said.
The civil cost of each dual carriageway flyover is estimated at ₹70 crore. Approximately 60% of the land acquisition for the Avadi facility has been completed. In Ambattur, the process is almost complete, with the road department awaiting administrative sanction from the state government for the acquisition cost.

Asked when the flyover construction work would start, sources in the department said it depends on CMRL to construct them along with their corridor as the flyovers will be integrated with their pillars.
As the Metrorail corridor enters CTH Road near Ambattur, the department is constructing a fourth facility, a strata sorter at Korattur. Another source said the land acquisition was at an advanced stage.
Thiruninravuru resident V. Dwarakanath said that while residents welcomed the flyovers, they had been waiting for the widening of the road for 20 years. “Since the road is narrow, there are many accidents, vehicles move slowly and pedestrians find it difficult to cross the road,” he said.
