
A man was burned to death after a parked car caught fire here on Thursday, police said. According to the police, the incident took place around 4 pm when local people noticed a car engulfed in flames on the roadside along the Dhoni-Mundur stretch near Arimani Estate.
When people rushed to the scene, they noticed a man sitting in the driver’s seat of the vehicle, police said, adding that the fire was so intense that attempts to put it out failed. The fire was subsequently extinguished by the Fire and Rescue Service.
Police said a preliminary investigation based on the vehicle’s registration plate revealed that the car belonged to a person from Velikkad near Mundur. They said they were unable to contact the owner immediately, but were in contact with his relatives.
Probe launched
The vehicle was refueled with gasoline from a nearby gas station around 3:00 p.m. A detailed investigation into the identity of the deceased and the cause of the fire has begun.
Hemambika Nagar police will register the case after completion of preliminary investigation, they added.
