Assistant engineer suspended, contractor blacklisted for poor road works in Bengaluru
The Bengaluru Central City Corporation (BCCC) on Saturday suspended an assistant engineer (AE) and blacklisted a contractor after irregularities were found in the road asphalting work carried out under the infrastructure program at Ward 110, Sampangiramanagar.
Suspended official Poojarappa, AE of Sampangiramanagar, will also face a ministerial probe for alleged collusion with a contractor and execution of shoddy work. The suspension followed the directions of Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda.
According to the GBA document, the inspection revealed poor-quality execution of asphalting works on the main road and sub-main road in Ward 110. The officials’ inspection revealed that the roads were not asphalted according to the approved action plan. The contractor allegedly used less material than prescribed and did not adhere to the required thickness of the asphalt layer.
The order said the deficiencies indicated serious lapses in the implementation and oversight of the project. The order alleged that the officer failed in his duties and colluded with the contractor during the execution of the project. The suspension was ordered under Rule 10 of the Karnataka Civil Services (Classification, Review and Appeal) Rules, 1957.
