The bilateral military exercise EKUVERIN between the Indian Army and the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) concluded with a joint verification exercise in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday (December 16, 2025), culminating two weeks of intensive training.
The verification phase was observed by Major General RD Sharma from the Indian Army and Brigadier General Abdulla Ibrahim from the Maldivian side along with delegations of observers from both countries.
The Indian Army said the exercise focused on counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations in contemporary operational environments to improve interoperability, operational synergy and tactical coordination between the two forces in sub-conventional conflict scenarios.
Key training activities included cordon and search operations, room intervention training, small team tactics, reflex fire and close combat techniques, aimed at improving accuracy, speed and effectiveness during counter-terrorism operations. Special emphasis was placed on amphibious exercises, intelligence operations, real-time decision-making and joint mission planning in dynamic operational conditions.
Both contingents also practiced explosives handling, demolition techniques and advanced field craft, enhancing their ability to neutralize threats and secure sensitive areas.
The culminating exercise successfully confirmed all the stated objectives of the training. Senior officers from both sides expressed satisfaction with the high level of professionalism and operational capabilities of the units involved.
Exercise EKUVERIN reaffirmed the joint commitment of India and the Maldives to enhance professional military cooperation and contribute to peace and security in the Indian Ocean region.
