In a move aimed at improving administration and streamlining policing across Karnataka, Karnataka State Police Chief MA Saleem has directed senior police officers to conduct inspections of district and city police units between May and July 2026.
According to the circular, additional directors general of police (ADGPs) and inspector generals of police (IGPs) have been assigned districts and commissionerates to review police standards, administrative efficiency and implementation of new criminal laws.
Areas of focus
The inspection will focus on law and order management, crime investigation standards, pending promotions, social welfare police measures, intelligence gathering, cyber crime investigation and disposal of pending accounts and utilization certificates.
Senior officers have also been instructed to verify the timely investigation of cases under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act, 2012, monitor actions against organized crime, narcotics offences, hate speech and illegal immigrants and assess as “public interventions” and police initiatives.
The circular further directs inspectors to review the recovery of stolen property, enforcement of warrants, conviction rates, use of forensic vehicles and mental and physical health initiatives for police personnel.
During the second day of the inspection, officers will conduct parades, inspect District Armed Reserves (DARs), police quarters and conduct district-level crime review meetings. All inspectors have been asked to submit detailed reports to the DGP within 10 days of completion of inspection.
