Seven dead, 25 injured in Parbhani temple roof collapse in Maharashtra

At least seven people were killed and 25 others injured when a roof collapsed at the Yashwadi temple in Manvat taluk of Parbhani district, Maharashtra, on Saturday (June 20, 2026). The ceiling of the under-construction hall at the Hanuman temple collapsed in the afternoon as a large number of people gathered there for weekly prayers and communal meals.
District Collector Sanjay Chavan, Sub-Divisional Officer Sangita Chavan and Tehsildar Pandurang Machewad said 32 people were pulled from the rubble and seven of them were declared dead. Another 25 were injured. Rescue operations continued for two-and-a-half hours and involved the police, disaster management team, public works department and local villagers.
The cause of the collapse is under investigation.
On Saturdays, the temple attracts a large number of people from Parbhani and neighboring districts, as is the custom. Devotees gather in the temple complex for darshan, kirtan and distribution of mahaprasad.
The structure that collapsed was a hall located in front of the main temple where religious activities took place. The incident created panic in the premises and devotees ran around in confusion.
After receiving information about the incident, local authorities and police reached the spot. Rescuers, including fire brigade units from Pathri and the city corporation, began working to pull out those trapped under the debris. Several ambulances were dispatched to the scene and transported the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Parbhani MP Sanjay Jadhav expressed grief over the incident and urged the administration to provide necessary medical care to the injured. He said he is in contact with county officials to coordinate relief efforts.
Similarly, Dr. Parbhani MLA Rahul Patil expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and said that the administration has been directed to provide necessary assistance to the affected families. He emphasized that relief measures are a priority.
The cause of the collapse is being investigated, and the administration is focusing on rescue work and medical care. Relatives gathered at the temple and hospitals to get information about their family members who visited the temple.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis issued a statement condoling the families of the deceased. He said the state government would provide financial assistance of ₹5,000 to the next of kin of each deceased. He added that local government officials were at the spot and rescue and relief operations were underway immediately.
