Describing the one million signature drive launched by the YSRCP against the “privatisation” of medical colleges in Andhra Pradesh as a “political ploy”, Agriculture Minister K Atchannaidu said the move was designed to “deceive the people”.
“Such theatrics are used for political gain. Mere collection of signatures cannot bring about real change,” the minister said in a statement on Monday, urging the public to recognize the genuine efforts of the NDA government for the welfare of citizens and reject the “empty political tricks” of the YSRCP.
Mr. Atchannaidu said the revolutionary transformation in medical education through Public Private Partnership (PPP) model aims to benefit students from poor and middle class families.
“Under the new initiative, the construction of the medical college, which previously took 20 years, will now be completed in just two years. The total number of medical seats is expected to increase from 500 to 1,700 to 2,000, with 850 seats specially reserved for economically weaker and middle-class students,” he said.
In addition, 220 seats will be added to the government quota, making it an increase of 110 seats. “The hospitals built under PPP mode will provide world-class infrastructure, high-quality staff and super-specialized doctors. Citizens will benefit from free and effective medical care under the Universal Health Policy,” he said.
The hospital will be expanded to accommodate up to 1,500 beds, Mr. Atchannaidu said, adding that the government aims to provide better healthcare for women, children and the underprivileged and make resources available to the general public.
