
Writer M. Raghavan died early Monday morning in Mahe. Mr. Raghavan is known for his short stories Nanavu, Vadhu, September Akaleyalla and Iniyumethra Kaatham; and the novels Nankis, Avan, Yathra Parayathe and Chithariya Chithrangal. He also wrote several plays like Karkkidakam and Chathurangam. He translated French feminist writer Helen Cixous’s play Dora into Malayalam under the title Dorayude Katha. He is the elder brother of writer M. Mukundan.
Born in Mahe in 1930, Mr. Raghavan worked at the French Consulate in Bombay and the French Embassy in Delhi. He retired as Secretary for Cultural Affairs from the Embassy in 1983.
He was awarded the Malayala Ratnam award by the Government of Puducherry for his contribution to Malayalam literature and language. He also received the Vaikom Mohammed Basheer Award from the State Institute of Languages and the Abu Dhabi Shakti Award in 2008.
