KTR tells Govt. procure every grain or face protests
BRS working president KT Rama Rao addressing the general body meeting of the party in Boath constituency during his tour in Adilabad on Saturday.
BRS working president KT Rama Rao alleged that the Congress government had abandoned the farmers of Telangana by deciding to limit the purchase of crops to quotas set by the central government and accused Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of going back on his promise to procure every grain produced by farmers.
Mr. Rama Rao said during his Adilabad general body meeting in Boath constituency that farmers should not collude with officials if their crops are not procured and must hold Congress leaders accountable for questioning them on their promises of bonus payments, shopping centers and support prices.
“Just a few days ago, the Chief Minister assured the farmers that his government would procure every grain. Today he is saying that the state will buy only as much as the center allows. This is a total betrayal of Telangana farmers and leaves them at the mercy of private traders,” said Mr. Rama Rao.
Mr. Rama Rao warned that the BRS would intensify its agitation in Telangana until the government withdrew the decision and resumed the purchase of every grain produced by the farmers.
Earlier in the day, Mr. Rama Rao visited Ponn village in Sirikonda mandal of Adilabad district and consoled the family of farmer Panduranga who reportedly committed suicide after he failed to secure purchase for the sorghum crop. He handed over a financial assistance of ₹ 3 lakh on behalf of BRS and demanded that the state government immediately provide ₹ 25 lakh as ex gratia to the bereaved family and offer government jobs to Pandurang’s children.
