In a remarkable result in the civic elections held on December 11, one of the candidates of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) in Mannarkkad municipality managed to get only one vote.
LDF-backed independent candidate Firos Khan, who contested from Kunthipuzha (Ward 1) using the TV symbol, got only one vote, while United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate KC Abdurahman won the constituency with 312 votes.
Allegations have surfaced that the LDF was in cahoots with the Welfare Party of India (WPI). The WPI-backed independent candidate, Sidheeque Kunthipuzha, got 179 votes, while another independent candidate, Faisal KT, got 65 votes. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Sudheesh P. managed to get only eight votes.
The LDF fielded Firos Khan as an independent candidate at the last minute amid growing allegations of an alliance between the LDF and the WPI in the assembly.
