Mysuru MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar on Sunday expressed confidence that the Center of Excellence for Studies in Classical Kannada (CESCK) would soon be accorded autonomous status while reaffirming his commitment to the development of the centre.
Addressing the Karnataka Rajyotsava celebrations held at the Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL) in Mysuru, Mr. Wadiyar said the process of granting autonomy has already begun. “I think the process has started and I am with you on that. All that remains is the final decision. The land for housing the center has been identified and construction can begin,” he said.
The MP recently urged the Ministry of Education to grant CESCK autonomous status, saying autonomy is key to the centre’s growth and long-term development. He pointed out that even though Kannada was declared a classical language 17 years ago, the study center is yet to get autonomous status.
Currently, CESCK operates under CIIL. Mr. Wadiyar noted in the memorandum that the potential of the center remains limited due to the absence of autonomy and adequate infrastructure.
A dedicated building is a key prerequisite for autonomy. In this regard, the University of Mysore syndicate has identified four acres and two guntas of land near Pump House, opposite Basavapeetha, for setting up a permanent campus. The state government issued a regulation in 2020 approving the allocation of land.
Mr. Wadiyar urged the Ministry of Education and the Department of Higher Education to expedite the release of the required funds and provide full support for the construction of the new facility and the upgrading of the CESCK infrastructure.
