Members representing various Hindu organizations gathered outside Sri Venkateswara Government Polytechnic (SVGP) on Kapila Theertham Road here on Saturday and staged a demonstration against a contract lecturer who was giving religious sermons in the classroom.
In a video that went viral on social media platforms, the lecturer, identified as Madhavi, was seen writing a Telugu text on a green board comparing Jesus Christ to parents and siblings. The video was apparently taken by one of the students in the class.
Activists belonging to Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal reached the college and asked the school management and the district administration to initiate disciplinary proceedings against the lecturer for delivering a sermon in a public institution. They also demanded action from the NDA alliance government to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
Meanwhile, TTD board member G. Bhanuprakash Reddy demanded the government to remove the contract employee as he failed to draw a line between personal life and professional ethics. “She can sit at home and pray, but using the classroom for the same and making students her audience is inexcusable. The government should immediately initiate disciplinary action against her,” he demanded.
