Samajwadi Party (SP) president and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has said that his party will effectively use artificial intelligence (AI) technology to defeat the BJP in the upcoming Uttar Pradesh assembly elections.
Addressing the media on the sidelines of the Vision India: AI summit in Hyderabad, he said the party is organizing such summits across major cities to create awareness among the youth about the use of technology in governance and future technology-driven transformation.
Responding to questions on Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls by the Election Commission, he said the BJP government was trying to wipe out nearly three million votes in Uttar Pradesh through the SIR process. Improper use of technology resulted in the erasure of voters’ real names.
Accusing the BJP of misusing the SIR for electoral gains, he said the exercise was solely aimed at helping the BJP win elections in states like Uttar Pradesh. “This is not SIR, it is NRC in disguise,” he claimed, arguing that the government could not implement the National Register of Citizens (NRC) directly, using SIR as an alternative.
Mr. Akhilesh Yadav emphasized the need for effective use of AI technology in key sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure development, urbanization, improving urban amenities, traffic management and healthcare.
Expressing concern over the rise in cyber crime, he said that Uttar Pradesh is recording the highest number of cyber crimes in the country. He warned against the spread of fake AI-generated videos on social media and stressed the urgent need to deploy AI itself to curb such threats. “Technology should benefit everyone,” he said.
