The Telangana government is considering supplying milk procured by Vijaya Dairy to about 27 lakh students studying in government schools and children attending Anganwadi centers as part of efforts to strengthen the dairy sector and improve nutritional support.

The proposal came up for discussion at a high-level review meeting chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka at the Secretariat on Saturday.

The Deputy Chief Minister urged the officials to prepare accurate estimates of total milk production and asked the officials to conduct field visits to ascertain the actual number of milk producing animals and assess the milk production and submit a comprehensive report in the next review meeting.

Mr. Bhatti emphasized the need for a clear policy on milk procurement prices and directed officials to ensure timely payment of bills to milk farmers without any outstanding dues. He also directed that payments for milk supplied to schools should be made directly by concerned welfare departments to agencies to avoid delay in payments to farmers.

The Deputy Chief Minister said prompt payments would strengthen the financial position of farm families and encourage them to continue supplying milk to dairies. Animal Husbandry Minister Vakiti Srihari and senior officials attended the meeting.
