
The Cabinet Economic Committee here on Friday decided to increase the minimum support price (MSP) for copra for the 2026 market season. The MSP for fair average quality ground copra has been fixed at ₹12,027 per quintal and for copra ball at ₹12,500 per quintal. The new rate represents an increase of ₹ 445 per quintal for ground copra and ₹ 400 per quintal for ball copra over the previous season.
In a release, the Union government said it has raised the MSP for copra grinding and copra balls from ₹5,250 per quintal and ₹5,500 per quintal for the 2014 marketing season to the current MSP, registering a growth of 129% and 127% respectively. The government claimed that the MSP of all mandated crops would be set at a level of at least 1.5 times the all-India weighted average cost of production.
“A higher MSP will not only ensure better returns for coconut farmers but also encourage farmers to expand copra production to meet the growing demand for coconut products in the domestic and international markets,” the center said, adding that the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd.
