Members of the Nadaf Pinjar community staged a protest in Belagavi on Friday with a set of demands including internal reservation among backward classes and increase in community development grants.
They sat on a dharna outside the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha building and demanded that the state government initiate targeted development of the communities as they were the most backward among Muslims. They also demanded a separate development company for the community.
Even after so many years of independence, the communities remained backward. Muslims are categorized as backward classes in Karnataka and enjoy reservation quota. We demand that the Nadaf Pinjar community needs a separate category created through internal reservation. Government should establish more educational facilities like government schools and colleges.
MLA Laxman Savadi, who received the memorandum from the protesters, promised to bring their issues to the attention of the House on Monday.
