The state government will take action against government officials allegedly involved in creating as many as 98 fake land grant certificates in Chikkanayakanahalli taluk of Tumakuru district, revenue minister Krishna Byre Gowda has promised.
Responding to a question raised by member Ramesh Babu during the Zero Hour in the Belagavi Legislative Council on Friday, Mr. Byre Gowda said the ministry was conducting an inquiry into the allegations.
A team of senior officers visited the taluk on November 13 and found that 98 fake land grant certificates had been created and inserted in official files. Among those who obtained fake certificates, 32 people applied for khatas. The department has lodged an FIR against those land grabbers, the minister said.
The minister said the fake land records were created with the knowledge of government officials in the record room of the revenue department.
“I have directed the police to register a case against all officials in charge of the record room since 2018. A team has been formed to identify those who created fake records. Several signatures on the records could match those of the officials,” the minister said.
He said the investigation team was seeking one more week’s time to complete the investigation. “We will lodge an FIR against the officials involved, apart from the department’s investigation against them,” he said.
