Four Assam cricketers – Amit Sinha, Ishan Ahmed, Aman Tripathi and Abhishek Thakuri – were suspended by the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) on Friday, December 12 for their alleged involvement in corrupt practices during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025.
The ACA filed a first information report (FIR) with the crime branch of the state police and initiated criminal proceedings against these persons who represented Assam at various levels. The suspensions follow allegations that the players tried to influence and instigate other Assam players while participating in a tournament that concluded league matches in Lucknow between November 26 and December 8.
ACA secretary Sanatan Das said, as quoted by PTI, “After the allegations came to light, BCCI’s anti-corruption and security unit conducted an investigation. ACA also initiated criminal proceedings. Prima facie, they appear to have been involved in serious misconduct affecting the integrity of the sport.” These remarks underscore the seriousness with which the association is handling the situation as it aims to protect the integrity of the sport.
The suspended players are now barred from participating in any state-level tournaments or matches run by the ACA, its district units or affiliated clubs. This restriction applies to any cricket-related activity, including roles such as match referee, coach or umpire, during the ongoing period of suspension. The aim of the ACA’s decision is to prevent further disruption or compromise of the standards of the game.
Das further explained, “They have been suspended to limit any scope for further deterioration of the situation. The suspension will continue pending the final outcome of the investigation and/or any further decision by the Association.” This measure is intended as a precautionary measure to maintain discipline and order in Assam cricket until the investigation is over.
The ACA also directed all district associations to ensure full compliance with the suspension order. Das remarked, “Das said that all district associations have been directed to ensure strict adherence to the ordinance and inform the clubs and academies under their jurisdiction about the ACA’s decision.” This directive is to ensure that the suspension is effectively enforced at all levels of Assam cricket.
Assam failed to qualify for the Super League stage of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophyafter completing their league matches in Lucknow. The ACA’s swift and comprehensive response reflects ongoing efforts to uphold discipline and integrity in state cricket while the investigation is ongoing.
