A 35-year-old man was allegedly hacked to death by his own brother at a madrassa in south Bengaluru’s Banashankari on Thursday over a family dispute.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Muzahid, who ran a madrassa in Yarabnagar near Banashankari. Accused Mohammad Muzafar (23) also sustained injuries during the altercation and is currently undergoing treatment.
Police said they will take him into custody after his release.
The incident took place around 5.30 am in the madrasa. A fight reportedly broke out between the brothers after a discussion about Muzahid swearing at their mother the previous day.
A police officer investigating the case told The Hindu that the accused lives with his parents in Bommanahalli. On Wednesday, the family visited the home of Muzahid, who lived separately, during which a minor verbal altercation took place between them.
“After dinner, the brothers went to the madrasa to sleep as there was not enough space in the house. Early on Thursday morning, the brothers had another fight over the same issue,” the officer said.
The fight escalated and one of them grabbed a knife in the heat. In the scuffle, both sustained injuries while Muzafar allegedly stabbed his brother in the neck and chest resulting in his death.
“After the fight, Muzafar rushed out of the madrasa but collapsed due to his injuries. A neighbor saw him covered in blood and called the police line,” an officer told The Hindu.
Banashankari police reached the spot and found Muzahid lying in a pool of blood and Muzafar on the ground in pain. Muzafar was taken to a nearby hospital while Muzahid’s body was sent for post-mortem. Muzafar told police he killed his brother because he refused to apologize to their mother after an argument. However, the police have yet to conduct a full interrogation after his release.
An FIR under Section 103 of the BNS, which deals with murder, was registered against Muzafar at the Banashankari police station.
