The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, on Thursday approved several major policy decisions, including enhancements to employee allowances, key reforms in prison administration and major investments in water and maritime infrastructure, and approval of proposals approved by the State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB) and the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA).
Addressing the media at the Secretariat, Information and Public Relations Minister Kolusu Parthasarathi outlined the cabinet resolutions and described them as major steps towards administrative modernization and economic revival.
A significant decision was the approval to increase the poverty allowance (DA) and dependency relief (DR) by 3.64 percent for government employees and pensioners. The revised rates will apply retroactively from January and July 2023.
The minister said the decision reflected the government’s commitment to support its workforce at a time of rising inflationary pressures.
The Cabinet also approved the renewal of the Andhra Pradesh State Welfare Board to strengthen utilization and monitoring of welfare funds and ensure that welfare schemes are more effectively implemented across the state.
In a major step for the development of water resources, the government has ratified the State Water Action Plan, which was earlier approved by the Apex Committee. The plan includes 506 projects with a revised administrative sanction of ₹9,514.63 crore.
In addition, the government approved one-time procurement and execution methods for 281 works aimed at improving irrigation efficiency and scientific water management.
The Cabinet approved the draft ‘Andhra Pradesh Prisons and Correctional Services Act, 2025’ to replace the outdated central laws of 1894 with a modern correctional framework. The bill will be submitted to the legislature.
In the maritime sector, the government has approved allotment of 29.58 acres of land at Juvvaladinne fishing harbor in Nellore district to Sagar Defense Engineering Pvt. Ltd. for the establishment of an Autonomous Naval Shipyard and System Center. The land will be transferred from the Fisheries Department to the Andhra Pradesh Maritime Board.
Further, the government has sanctioned ₹1,596.50 crore for repair and upgradation of four major reservoir systems under the minor irrigation department, which will benefit farmers in Punganur and Chinnagottigallu mandals and increase irrigation potential over 892 acres, he added.
