The plenary session of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) has appointed culture secretary Vivk Aggarwal as the next vice-president of the global anti-money laundering and countering the financing of terrorism watchdog for the period 2026-2027.

“Members endorsed FATF priorities under the upcoming UK Chairmanship and appointed Mr. Vivek Aggarwal of India as incoming FATF Vice-President (July 2026-June 2027),” the FATF report said.

Mr. Aggarwal will replace Giles Thomson, who served as FATF Vice-President from 1 July 2025.

Mr. Aggarwal, who currently serves as Secretary in the Ministry of Culture, led the Indian delegation to the FATF. He led a multidisciplinary team during India’s FATF peer review process.

His selection is seen as a significant advance for India’s role in global financial governance and efforts to strengthen international cooperation on anti-money laundering, counter-terrorism financing and illicit financial flows.
