
A rich literary festival called ‘Theyila’ will be held in Munnar on Sunday (December 14, 2025). According to the organizers, the literary confluence is initiated by the participation of writers from the upper echelons and those who wrote about it.
Devikulam MLA A. Raja will inaugurate the function at the forest track near the Munnar panchayat office in Idukki at 10.15 am on Sunday.
Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award winner and Kerala Police Academy Director K. Sethuraman will deliver the keynote address.
According to the organizers, the program is being conducted as part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Eravikulam National Park (ENP) and the 100th anniversary of Munnar Government College.
Writer and Journalist MJ Babu said that nearly 50 writers from tall areas would participate in the festival. “The highlands are a confluence of Tamil, Malayalam and English cultures. Originally there was literature mostly in English by JD Munro, AFF Martin, Violet Martin, WSS Mackey and others. Now there are many writers from the highlands in Malayalam and Tamil. The name of the festival has been retained as ‘Theyila’ because here Mr. Babaid tea is an essential part.
Writer Ashokan Marayur is the director of the festival.
