A statement from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation denied involvement in the felling of trees that took place in an open area at New MLA Quarters.
In response to a newspaper article “Cutting of trees in New MLA Quarters goes unpunished” published on Thursday (December 11), Khairatabad Zone Municipal Biodiversity Department informed that the company had started pruning branches on the request of former MP Anjan Kumar Yadav but had not cut any tree.
Referring to a photograph of the stump used along with the news article, the statement said it was after the UBD staff left that Mr Yadav’s personal secretary hired machinery to remove the tree.
When the deputy director along with the circle head visited the spot, the stump had already been removed, the statement said. Information about the removal of trees is being forwarded to the forest department for further action, he said.
The article reported the removal of several trees to facilitate the meeting at the site, as claimed by local residents who also shared video clips of the operation. Forestry officials have not yet responded to the allegations.
