Cane crushing for the 2025-26 season has started at the Chengalvarayan Cooperative Sugar Mill in Villupuram.
The 2025-26 cane crushing season began at the Chengalrayan Public Sector Cooperative Sugar Mill in Periyasevalai on Wednesday.
Sugarcane grown on about 10,347 acres by nearly 4,000 farmers has been registered for supply to the mill for the current season. About 3.01 million tonnes of sugarcane were expected to be crushed at the mill during the season.
The crushing season was formally launched by Collector Sheik Abdul Rahman.
According to a press release, farmers would get ₹4,000 per tonne of cane. To encourage members of the society who registered and crushed cane in the last crushing season 2024-25, a subsidy of ₹ 349 per tonne was issued. A total of ₹7.95 crore was directly credited to the accounts of the sugarcane cooperative society members.
