The Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) on Wednesday conducted a special inspection drive to find out violations in the sale of prescription drugs at medical device retail outlets in the state.
The aim of the action was to tighten supervision over the sale of drugs from list H and H1, which include addictive substances, abortion kits and antibiotics, which can only be issued with a valid medical prescription.
During the nationwide operation, officers found numerous discrepancies in 180 medical device retail stores. These were the sale of drugs from list H and list H1 without a valid prescription, stocking expired drugs and not keeping or issuing registers of prescription drugs, sales documents and purchase invoices.
Officials also reported irregularities in the handling of copies of bills and cases where prescription drugs were sold without a registered pharmacist present. Cases were issued to all 180 establishments.
