Today’s earthquake: A magnitude 5.8 earthquake hit northern Colombia on Wednesday, the European Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) said. The quake was at a depth of 157 km (98 miles), EMSC said.
Several videos on social media showed sirens warning of an earthquake – as residents came out of buildings.
The earthquake in northern Columbia, US, came days after a 2.1-magnitude tremor shook San Ramon, California. The quake struck at 2:11 a.m. local time and was centered about 2 miles southeast of San Ramon at a depth of 5 miles.
A few hours later, a massive 7.6 magnitude earthquake hit Japan.

The massive earthquake prompted authorities to issue a tsunami warning. The Japan Meteorological Agency warned that tsunami waves up to ten feet high could follow.
According to preliminary data, the earthquake occurred on December 8, 2025 at 19:45:09 (local time). According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the epicenter of the earthquake was born at a depth of 32 miles and was located 80 km off the coast of Aomori Prefecture.
