Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy stated that Telangana Rising – 2047 is a vision document that has been conceived to build a robust Telangana where women, youth, marginalized and other sections will be able to compete and face the emerging challenges.
The document represents a plan to invest in a future where people will get social justice and have equal opportunities, he added. “I am spending on social security to create a level playing field. I am investing in the future to make people compete with developed countries like Germany, Japan, Singapore and others,” the chief minister said at the valedictory address of the two-day Telangana Rising Global Summit on Tuesday.
The vision document was not prepared behind closed doors but reflected the aspirations of the vast majority of people in the state. The government involved all sections as stakeholders in the preparation of the document and more than four million people joined the exercise online and gave suggestions to the government, he explained.
Comprised of 2.9% of the population, Telangana currently contributed to 5% of the country’s GDP. With Prime Minister Narendra Modi setting a target of USD 30 trillion economy through Viksit Bharat, the government has decided to ensure that Telangana’s contribution rises to 10% or USD 3 trillion by then.
In this regard, education, irrigation and communication would be among the key areas inspired by developed countries such as Japan, Germany and Singapore. The chief minister explained the rationale behind the document by stating that “I myself have seen the problems of the poor since my childhood”. “I come from a farming family and I have no political heritage. I rose from the smallest position of a ZP member in 2006 to be an MLC, MLA, MP and party president before becoming the chief minister. It took 17 years to get to that position,” he said, turning nostalgic.
Mr. Revanth Reddy said that the document was designed to ensure that the lives of the youth and other sections were affected and made competitive. He explained to the participants how social stigmas such as caste discrimination persist in the country. “Despite talk of eradicating caste discrimination, hostels are being built separately for STs, SCs, BCs and minorities,” he wondered.
The government therefore created integrated residential schools in Young India where students from all schools studied together. “We are spending ₹200 crore each on these schools, which will have inclusive infrastructure,” he said.
According to him, the education sector does not really have built-in components of quality or skills, despite the enactment of the Right to Education Act. “Hence, my government has initiated a skill university to be headed by Anand Mahindra of the Mahindra Group,” he said. He lamented that India, a country of 140 million people, unfortunately cannot secure a gold medal at the Olympics. “That’s why we created a sports university,” he told the participants.
The policy document comprehensively covered all these aspects so that the state would achieve all-round development within the time frame set for this purpose. “I want you to join us on this journey,” he said, calling on major industrial firms and other stakeholders to join the state government on its journey to a $3 trillion economy.
