
Senior Professor S. Sivakumar, Indian Law Institute (ILI), New Delhi, has been appointed as a member of the central body of the National Legal Services Authority (NLSA) by the Union Ministry of Law and Justice, Ministry of Justice. The appointment, announced in the Union Gazette of 1 December 2025, considered his long-standing contributions to legal education, policy formulation and judicial reforms in India.
With over three decades of distinguished academic and administrative experience, including his leadership in legal education and contributions to the development of legal research and capacity building, he is the current President of the Commonwealth Legal Education Association (CLEA) and has also served as a full-time member of the 21st Law Commission of India.
Hailing from Thiruvananthapuram, he is also active in the ‘No Drugs Programme’ initiatives in Kerala, contributing to public education, legal awareness and youth prevention campaigns against substance abuse. He is currently working on the development of a Civil Rights Education Program at the school level, which is intended to help shape aware, responsible and rights-conscious young citizens.
