Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has issued a strict order to Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs and party office-bearers to prioritize the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the state.
The chief minister, who chaired a meeting with lawmakers and party leaders at the Annexe Auditorium on Wednesday, stressed that the next month must be devoted entirely to the exercise.
In the hour-long meeting, Adityanath directed party cadres to go door-to-door in their booths and identify who had submitted SIR forms and who had not.
He called for holding voter awareness camps at every booth across the districts and assigning specific duties to senior citizens. The Chief Minister said that the team must also monitor the mobility of voters, voters who left and those who immigrated.
He emphasized on verifying whether newly married women whose names may have been deleted from their previous address were added to the voters’ list in their new homes. Similarly, the names of people who have migrated to Gorakhpur for employment must be given without fail.
Adityanath directed district presidents to form teams of ten workers per booth — five men and five women — to reach out to male and female voters to ascertain the status of SIR form submission.
Addressing the MLAs, he asked them to keep a close eye on each booth, stay in constant touch with booth-level workers, ensure proper filling of forms and submissions, and pay attention to notices issued during the complaint and objection phase. Camps should be organized in rural areas with the same seriousness as cities, he added.
Referring to opposition protests against SIR Adityanath warned BJP workers not to be misled.
“Don’t assume that those opposed to SIR are not working on the ground. Their cadres are actively involved. BJP workers must respond with equal commitment,” he said.
He called on the party to reach out to every voter and ensure that no legitimate voter is left out and no fake names slip through the cracks. “BJP workers must be available to help every voter,” he stressed.
Gorakhpur Minister-in-Charge Swatantradev Singh, NISHAD Party National President Sanjay Nishad, BJP State Vice President and SIR In-charge Dharmendra Singh, Regional President Sahajanand Rai, Local MLAs, District Presidents and SIR Convenors attended the meeting.
