Campaigning ahead of Thursday’s civic body elections ended on a high note in the district on Tuesday evening, with major political fronts such as Left Democratic Front (LDF), United Democratic Front (UDF) and National Democratic Alliance (NDA) holding lively and energetic rallies across the district.
Campaign announcements from vehicles reached a crescendo as party workers took to the streets, singing, dancing and raising slogans. In some areas, the finale of the election campaign took the form of live cultural shows.
Bike rallies were held in most of the panchayats, while processions and rallies at the ward level saw the participation of thousands of women and children. Political representatives also joined the celebrations in several areas.
In Palakkad city, Sulthan Pet saw the liveliest finale where the main political fronts displayed their strength and enthusiasm.
The UDF started its latest roadshow from Jainimedu and ended at Sulthan Pet, covering areas including Olavakode, Thonippalayam, Mattumantha, Kallepulli, Koppam, Narikuthi, Parakkunnam, Selvapalayam, Kalmandapam, Chirakkad, Meparamba, Melamuri, Pattikkara, Patparamkam Kena, Kalmandamba, Kadanode, Puthuppallitheruvu and Fort Grounds.
The LDF started its roadshow from the CPI(M) district committee office and ended near Sulthan Pet, passing through Tharekkad and the Head Post Office.
Similarly, the NDA roadshow that started at Vadakkanthara campus also ended at Sulthan Pet, covering Market Road, Town Railway Overbridge and GB Road.
Most of the candidates attended the rally in open vehicles accompanied by convoys of bicycles. The noisy celebrations ended at exactly 6 p.m
On Wednesday, party workers and candidates will switch to silent campaigning, addressing voters directly and handing out leaflets.
