
India’s largest airline operator, IndiGo Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Pieter Elbers on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, issued a formal video apology to all passengers and people in the country amid mass flight cancellations, according to a social media post on X.
The airline chief also said that IndiGo is now “back on its feet” and that the airline operator’s operations are now “stable”. IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers said the company had let its passengers down during the major operational disruption and apologized for the inconvenience.

“I am Pieter Elbers, CEO of IndiGo. Following on from our communication earlier today, I am here to share that your airline IndiGo is back on its feet and our operations are stable. We have disappointed you when there is a major disruption to operations and we are sorry,” Pieter Elbers said in a social media post on X.
The CEO also reiterated that the company’s staff are working hard to accommodate customers and acknowledged that they cannot undo the flight cancellations, but they will be able to support their customers.
“While we cannot reverse the cancellation, I want to assure you that our entire IndiGo team has been working very hard since then, primarily for you, our valued customers,” Elbers said.

What has IndiGo done so far?
IndiGo’s CEO also gave an overview of what the company has done since the start of the operational crisis, which emerged in early December 2025. Pieter Elbers said the airline’s priority was to get all stranded and delayed passengers to their destinations, after which the airline began refunds.
“No questions asked! Lakhs of customers have already received full refunds and we continue to do so daily. We are fully committed to doing so, we assure you,” said IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers.
The executive director also said that most of the luggage that was stuck at the airports had already been “delivered back” to passengers and teams were working on the remaining ones.
IndiGo crisis update
The CEO of IndiGo also revealed that as of Tuesday, December 9, 2025, the airline’s full operations are now stabilized, which means flights scheduled as per the website will operate with a modified network.

The Director-General also advised that air travelers should keep an eye on websites for additional information.
“I can confirm that today, as of December 9, our operations are fully stabilized, which means that the flights reflected on our website are scheduled to operate with a modified network. So please continue to monitor our website for updates,” the IndiGo CEO said to the company.
Pieter Elbers also said the company is willing to cooperate fully with the Indian government now that the immediate crisis is being resolved amid an ongoing regulatory investigation into the matter.
“We continue to cooperate fully with the government and now that the immediate crisis is resolved, we have begun to focus internally on what led to this, the lessons to be learned and how to come out stronger,” he said.
Mint had earlier reported that despite the threat of strict action by the DGCA, more than 350 flights to and from airports in Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bengaluru were reportedly canceled on Tuesday.
