
Former Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu on Monday urged linguists to come up with new words in Telugu to replace the existing English words currently in use.
Mr. Naidu inaugurated a two-day nationwide workshop on ‘Uniform Scientific and Technical Terminology for Indian Language’ organized by Adikavi Nannaya University in association with Bharatiya Bhasha Samithi of the Ministry of Education.
Addressing a gathering of academicians, students and literary figures here at the university campus, Mr. Venkaiah Naidu said; “One should continue to speak in one’s mother tongue. Mastery of one’s mother tongue will help in learning other Indian languages.”
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Naidu reiterated that President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, myself and former Chief Justice of India NVRaman studied in their mother tongue. Many of those who occupy the highest administrative capacities of the country have also studied in their mother tongue”.
Mr. Naidu appreciated Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan’s initiative for reprinting the ‘Suryarayandra’ dictionary. Nannaya University Vice-Chancellor Prof.S.Prasanna Sree said that the language had to change during the course as it reflects the culture, traditions and lifestyle of the respective period.
“Language change is inevitable due to lifestyle changes and technological advancements in daily life. Language change is clearly visible, especially in the pronunciation of words,” said Ms. Prasanna Sree.
Books: Mr. Venkaiah Naidu and others have published two books; Handbook of Drug Addiction and Role of Enforcement by Retired DSP N. Bobbly and Dharani Putrulu by Farmer Pulla China Satyanarayan. Telugu-Sanskrit Academy President RDWilson, Bharatiya Bhasha Samithi Coordinator (Academics) K. Giridhar Rao and other academicians were present.
