The Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), which was supposed to implement a new lane segregation system at the drop-off area outside the two terminals of the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) from Monday, has postponed it by a few days.
“In consultation with the relevant authorities, KIA will now introduce overstay charges at the arrival curbs of Terminals 1 and 2, a few days later than planned. We intend to wait for the stabilization of the recent flight disruptions across the country, which we expect to happen in a day or two. The new measures, aimed at improving the ground experience at the airport,” it said, will be implemented according to the arrival schedule at T1 and BIAL.
The spokesperson added that the revised implementation effective date will be communicated within the next day or so.
According to BIAL, the airport will provide eight minutes of free use of the zone to all users, beyond which a charge of ₹150 will be charged for 8 to 13 minutes and ₹300 for 13 to 18 minutes. Any vehicle exceeding 18 minutes will be towed to the nearest police station and fines and towing fees will be charged.
It said improved passenger pick-up arrangements would be put in place to streamline passenger movement, reduce congestion and improve security, discipline and overall comfort in the arrivals areas at the airport.
