The fire tragedy took place at the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub in Goa in the early hours of Sunday, claiming 25 lives. According to the latest update on the investigation, the fifth accused in the case has been arrested. Escaped Birch restaurant owner Saurabh Luthra issued the first statement after the tragedy.
In a post on Instagram stories, Saurabh Luthra said, “The management expresses its deep sorrow and is deeply shaken by the tragic loss of life due to the unfortunate incident at Birch. In this hour of irreparable grief and immense suffering, the management stands in unwavering solidarity with the families of the deceased as well as the injured and further extends the management’s sincere condolences. It declares that it will extend all possible forms of assistance, support and cooperation for bereaved and disabled individuals who are going through this period of immense anxiety and adversity.”
The Directorate of Vigilance in its December 7 order said, “It is further directed that during the period during which this order remains in force, the headquarters of Dr. Shamila Monteiro shall be the Personnel Department, Secretariat, Porvorim, Goa and the said Dr. Shamila Monteiro shall not leave the headquarters without prior permission of the competent authority.”
