Nipah: three released for observation at MCH

Three persons who were observed in the Nipah isolation facility at the Government Medical College Hospital (MCH), Kozhikode, were discharged on Friday (June 19, 2026).

All 14 contacts who had previously shown symptoms tested negative for the virus. The sample of the health worker, who is currently under observation at a private hospital, was taken for testing on Friday.

Nipah patient remains on ventilator support at MCH. According to the press release, a total of 104 people remain under surveillance, with no new additions to the contact list.

Health workers conducted house-to-house surveillance in another 56 houses in Ward V of Ramanattukara village. The District Dispatch handled 88 public inquiries and remained in contact with all those monitored, the District Mental Health Program extended psychological support to 118 persons.

Meanwhile, a seven-member National Outbreak Response Team (NJORT) has arrived in Kozhikode to support Nipah containment efforts. A team led by Rameshwar Sorokhaibam, Joint Director, National Center for Disease Control (NCDC), held a strategic review meeting with District Collector MS Madhavikutty.
