Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Saturday called on Food Corporation of India (FCI) Chairman and Managing Director Ashutosh Agnihotri for additional allocation of parboiled rice under KMS 2024-25 (Rabi).
During a meeting with the FCI chief at the Secretariat, Mr. Uttam Kumar Reddy explained that while the Center had set a target of 30 LMT of parboiled rice for KMS 2024-2025 (Kharif & Rabi), 17.06 LMT of parboiled rice and 0.87 LMT of paddy rice had been supplied so far. Another 2.34 LMT of parboiled rice and 14.26 LMT of raw rice remain to be delivered.
The Civil Supplies Minister said that due to the suitability of the current Rabi season for parboiled rice, he has urged the FCI to approve an additional quota of 10-12 LMT. He also impressed on the need for additional rail rakes to speed up movement, noting a shortfall of 13.5 LMT compared to last year. Large stocks of parboiled rice are accumulating in FCI jars, he pointed out.
Mr. Uttam Kumar Reddy pointed out that without additional quotas and storage, procurement of new rice will be affected as millers are reluctant due to space constraints. Assuring that Telangana is committed to fulfilling its commitments, the minister sought a positive response from FCI to ensure smooth procurement and supply.
