Yashasvi Jaiswal capped a decisive day in his young career with a maiden ODI hundred in Vizag on Saturday, becoming only the sixth Indian to score a century in all three international formats. The left-hander joined an elite list that included Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, KL Rahul and Suresh Raina to mark a major milestone in the third ODI against South Africa.

The moment came with a short delivery on mid-on and leg. Jaiswal shuffled over, turned his wrist and gave it a gentle flick. He knew it was over before he even finished the run. His right hand shot out, he jumped into the air, took off his helmet and roared. Virat Kohli was the first to reach him and joined in the celebration as the Indian dressing room rose to its feet. After two quiet outings in the series, the hundred brought visible relief and joy.

Jaiswal was playing only his fourth ODI and needed 111 balls to reach the milestone. The early part of his innings was steady, led by Rohit Sharma, who helped him through the Test passages. Once set, Jaiswal found better pace and his movement from fifty to three figures in 36 balls showed growing comfort. Patience was mixed with timely aggression in the innings and the flick that got him to a hundred brought confidence that the format had settled.
Jaiswal entered the match with scores of 18 and 22 in the first two games, both times pushing into the attack early as India chased impressive totals. Vizag presented a calmer scenario and used the platform well. His only previous ODI, against England in Nagpur in February, had brought him just 15 and this innings felt like his first real chance to build.
With Shubman Gill back from injury, Jaiswal’s performance now gives the selectors and team management something to consider at the top of the order. India were in complete control of the chase when he reached his hundred, needing just 51 runs off 88 balls.
