As widespread disruption to IndiGo flights continues to affect passengers across the country, a woman traveling with her husband’s coffin remained stranded at Assam’s Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport on Friday. The passenger, who was headed to Kolkata – her late husband’s hometown – for his last rites, said her flight was canceled without notice, leaving her devastated and unsure how to arrive on time.
“I came from Shillong in the morning. My husband died and I came here to take the casket all the way to Kolkata to be buried in his hometown,” a visibly emotional ANI said.
The flyer added that repeated attempts to reach customer support yielded no concrete update, raising concerns as delays and cancellations continue at major airports.
“We have booked an IndiGo flight and till now we have no information whether the flight will take off or not… I am worried whether this flight will be canceled or whether it will take off,” she said.
The incident comes on the heels of a woman who was stranded at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport with her late father’s ashes on Friday night. Namita, who was headed to Delhi and then Dehradun for her father’s asthi visarjan, said her flight was canceled without any prior notice.
“I have to reach Delhi and then fly to Dehradun. Asthi visarjan has to be done tomorrow,” she told ANI.
IndiGo Flight Cancellation: Latest Updates
IndiGo has canceled all its domestic flights from Delhi airport till Friday midnight, in what it sees as the airline’s worst-hit day with more than 1,000 cancellations. Delhi Airport later said operations were “returning to normal” and urged passengers to check their flight status before departure.
The widespread disruptions caused an unprecedented increase in ticket prices. SpiceJet’s one-way economy ticket with one stopover on the Kolkata-Mumbai route on December 6 flew almost ₹90,000 while the Air India Mumbai–Bhubaneswar ticket touched ₹84,485, according to airline websites cited by PTI.
IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers on Friday apologized for the “serious operational disruptions” and assured passengers that efforts were underway to restore normal operations.
