Flat residents call men ‘Pakistani’ during Jawaharnagar rent dispute, apologize after police intervene
A dispute over unpaid rent, maintenance charges and complaints about a pet cat escalated into a confrontation at a Jawaharnagar apartment complex, where a 26-year-old man was questioned about his identity and some residents called him “Pakistani” before police intervened to resolve the matter.
The incident was reported at LakeView Apartments Thursday night. The videos have since gone viral across social media platforms.
According to Jawaharnagar Inspector S. Saidul, a group of residents went to a flat occupied by an elderly woman and her 26-year-old relative to question them over alleged non-payment of rent and maintenance charges. Residents also complained that the cat kept in the apartment was bothering and disturbing others in the apartment complex.
Police said the situation became tense because some residents were suspicious about the presence of a young man who had recently moved into the apartment and brought a cat with him. During the argument, the residents asked him about his origin and whereabouts.
During the confrontation, some residents allegedly referred to the man as “Pakistani” and claimed he was staying in the apartment illegally, police said.
The woman informed residents that her son lived in Delhi and her daughter in Maharashtra, while the young man was staying with her.
After receiving information about the dispute, the police intervened and consulted both parties. Inspector Saidulu said the matter was resolved amicably, the residents apologized for their remarks and the family agreed to abide by the rules and regulations of the housing association.
No case was registered and the issue was resolved after discussions between the parties, the official explained.
