Star India batsman Virat Kohli has led to a quick sell-out of tickets for the third ODI between India and South Africa to be played in Visakhapatnam. Kohli has been in sensational form in the ongoing series, returning with an insatiable desire to score centuries. The former India captain started the series with a remarkable knock of 135 (120), followed by another brilliant innings of 102 (93).
Courtesy of his back-to-back centuriestickets for the third match of the series were sold out within minutes and fans are eagerly waiting to see their favorite star in action. The Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) reported that the ticket sales were not good to begin with but disappeared within minutes after Kohli’s back-to-back centuries.
“The first phase of tickets went on sale on November 28. The response was not good. But after Kohli’s hundred in Ranchi, the second and third phases disappeared within minutes. Nothing was left unsold,” Y. Venkatesh of ACA’s Media and Operations team told The Indian Express.
Prices ranging from Rs 1,200 to Rs 18,000 did little to deter fans who flocked to the ticketing platform the moment the former Indian skipper rediscovered his highest ODI form. The surge in demand is largely due to Kohli’s remarkable record in Visakhapatnam, where he averages 97.83 in seven ODIs, including three centuries, 99 and 65.
The third ODI will also serve as the series decider after both teams win one match each. India registered a thrilling 17-run win in the first ODI in Ranchi as South Africa achieved a remarkable result comeback with a four-wicket win in Raipur chasing 359.
However, the focus was firmly on Virat Kohli in the first two matches, with the Indian batsman the highest run-scorer of the series with 237 runs. Whether he manages to score a third consecutive ODI hundred for the second time in his career remains to be seen.
