A police constable handed over the found mobile phone to its owner at his house in Uravakonda in Anantapur district on Thursday.
The Anantapur District Police on Thursday (December 4) handed over 1,025 recovered mobile phones worth ₹ 2.13 crore to their owners under the ‘Mee Mobile – Mee Intiki’ door-to-door delivery initiative.
Superintendent of Police P. Jagadeesh inaugurated the program at the District Police Office here. As directed by the SP, municipal police officers (VPOs) and local SIs from all the 42 police stations in the district visited the households to hand over the found devices and provide relief to those who lost their phones.
The SP said the phones were traced through complaints lodged through the CEIR portal and chatbot services with the support of cyber and technical teams using IMEI-based tracking.
Mr. Jagadeesh said that ensuring the security of citizens’ property is a top priority for the police and the new initiative aims to provide services more transparently, efficiently and reliably. The district police have so far seized and returned 13,619 mobile phones worth ₹26.24 crore since the launch of the dedicated recovery services in June 2022.
Of the recovered devices, 1,182 were traced to other states and 2,858 to 18 districts in Andhra Pradesh. The refurbished phones range in value from ₹ 499 to ₹ 1.41 lakh.
Police also warned the public against buying used phones without receipts or from unknown persons at bus stops, train stations and hospitals, and urged mobile shop owners to alert police if anyone tries to sell the device without documents.
