Bachelors staying in a flat in a Bengaluru housing society have been fined heavily after two girls stayed overnight, sparking an online debate after the post went viral.
A Reddit post titled “Unfair Treatment of Bachelors in Society” sought advice from social media users for the company to reconsider the fine imposed on them.
According to the post, the girls exceeded the length limit on October 31, aa ₹5000 invoice for fine imposed on bachelors was generated on 1st November.
“Our company basically has a rule that bachelors are not allowed to have overnight guests, but no family restrictions,” the viral post reads.
The bachelors also said they pay equal child support and everything.
“It’s like a first offense and I didn’t even get a warning. I know it’s too little of a problem, but it’s not nice to be treated like an inferior.”
The user said that while he can’t take any major legal action, he wrote: “Is there anything meaningful I can do to get them to reconsider?”.
Several reddit users commented on the post and suggested actions that could be taken
“Complaint to the registrar of companies. They will come begging. The association has no right to public interference and no right to live. Ask them to send a mail for this and also ask them to sign it, basically the president/secretary should sign it. Then complain about each one of them, get them to party. These people will get behind the name of the association and start this drama. Once you take them to court, they will understand,” wrote one user.
Another user said he knows someone who filed a lawsuit against the company and may do so as well. “They can’t even charge you GST, forget the accusation that what they’re doing is a crime.”
“If I owned an apartment here, I would definitely regret buying it,” said another user.
“This fine makes no sense. It’s like the company is behaving like an Oyo hotel,” commented one user.
Another user commented: “Technically you could fight this legally, but there’s no end to this crap. Eventually the landlord will just ask you to move out.”
